Channel V Launchpad III

The most promising and talked about stage for Indian Rock bands is on a weird road this year.

Why weird?…Because of the bands….Of course it will be idiotic to expect a superfuzz..sorry..indigo children to delight every time…but the bands may be indie..but the sounds are…for lack of a better word “safe”….

In the first round, all the bands were asked to do covers….ummmm why? As it is, originals (though catching up) are a rarity..and to decide a fate of a band on covers is unfair and inaccurate…many great bands in the world sucked at covers…it cant be a basis of judgement…it was flawed at the very beginning…

And the bands who are left: Faridkot, Cassini’s Division, Reverse Polarity, Workshop and The Circus.

People are putting their money on Cassini’s Division. Frankly, they sound a bit clueless. Faridkot scores cause of the language. Whatever be the music, the use of vernacular language will make it sound like they are different than the rest.

Out of these five, I would like to see The Circus to be the winner. Surely, their sound is not something which we have not heard before, but at least they know what they are doing and the fans enjoy what they are doing.

The problem which persists is..the bands do not instill confidence in us. May be its my problem, so I better stop here.

I’ll agree with you that CD do sound a bit clue-less, albeit at times. With Rahul being such a gifted and for the lack of a better word, intelligent, frontman, it leaves a gap between him and the musicians – who sound like a backup band. I’m certain that they’re good buds and all, but CD as a unit still needs to come together and knock our socks off… Which they’re surely capable of.
